Coaches

The Kings Point Dinghy Team has two experienced full-time coaches:

Blaine Pedlow

Blaine is in his second year at Kings Point, leading the team to two national championship berths in 2010, a 6th place ranking in the MAISA Conference and helping one sailor earn a place on the all-conference team.

Most recently Blaine served as Head Sailing Coach at SUNY Maritime College.  With the Privateers, Blaine coached the team to 6 national championship berths, with top-10 performances at both the 2009 ICSA Team Racing and Dinghy National Championships.  Blaine also helped 3 sailors to All-American selection and 3 others to All-Conference awards.

Prior to working with the Privateers, Blaine was director of operations for J/Boats West and Sail California, the West Coast dealer for J/Boats.  He has also worked as Head Coach for Columbia University and UC Berkeley.

A 2002 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a BS in Environmental Science, Blaine served 3 years as captain of the Cal Sailing Team.  Blaine was awarded the 2002 ICSA Robert Hobbes Trophy for outstanding sportsmanship in intercollegiate sailing and was a 3-year member of the PCCSC all-conference team.  He continues to race in the Etchells, 505 and match racing events, and also enjoys big boat and offshore sailing.



Michael Collins

Michael Collins enters his second season as the assistant coach of the Kings Point intercollegiate varsity sailing team.  Collins graduated from Old Dominion University in 2008 where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Sports Management.  While at Old Dominion he competed on their intercollegiate varsity sailing team.  He served as captain of the team his senior year.   After graduation Collins interned in New York City with the sports marketing firm SME Branding.  He resides in Bayport, NY and continues to sail competitively in the Vanguard 15 class and also competes in running races and triathlons.
